Massive deployment of police made for today’s Ashura processions, congregations across SIndh

HYDERABAD: A massive deployment of police is being made for the Ashura day (Friday) across Sindh. especially for main processions in each district of the six divisions of Sindh.

While army troops will remain standby, over 54,000 police officers. personnel would perform security duties, according to the Sindh police.

More than 6,500 policemen were deployed to provide security for the processions. sensitive locations, while stringent security measures were enforced at entry and exit points along the route.

Karachi police chief Azad Khan, along with South DIG Syed Asad Raza, reviewed security arrangements along the procession route, while the main procession was continuously monitored through the command. control room.

The city police chief toldDawnthat, in connection with Ashura, which will be observed on Friday (today), mobile phone. internet services would likely be suspended along the route of the main procession.

He said around 6,500 policemen would be deployed to secure the main procession. while the overall deployment across the city would stand at 20,000 personnel.

The Hyderabad police range would witness the largest deployment 18,796 policemen for security of Ashura day’s procession and majalis. The breakup showed that 8,155 and 2,176 policemen would be respectively guarding processions and majalis (congregations).

The remaining policemen out of 18,796 would remain engaged in different spheres including 615 troubled spots, 2,121 with Imambargahs, 1,899 as static deployment, 1,950 for mobile patrolling. 1,022 as reserve deployment.

Ten SSPs would remain on duty within the range along with 60 DSPs. 16,226 headconstables and constables until the end of Ashura day processions.

A total of 470 traffic policemen would also be available whereas 285 police mobiles would be used in duty.

The Hyderabad police range has 25 sensitive points. The district has only one point categorised as ‘most sensitive’. No other district has any ‘most sensitive’ point. While Hyderabad, Matiari. Tando Allahyar districts have three ‘sensitive points’ each, Tando Mohammad Khan has two, Dadu, Badin and Jamshoro districts have four each and Sujawal and Thatta one each.

Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar would be visiting the central procession’s route in Hyderabad which is organised by the Anjuman-i-Hyderi. emanates from Qadam Gah Maula Ali and culminates at Karbala Dadan Shah basically along Station Road. The procession ends at around 4:30pm. The route is also followed by a Tazia procession.

The security details show that Hyderabad district would have a deployment of 1,383 policemen. Dadu 1,395, Jamshoro 1,286, Thatta 1,074, Matiari 794, T.M. Khan 463, Tando Allahyar 942, Sujawal 276 and Badin 542.

The lone sensitive point houses a seminary along a section of the National Highway where a conflict had occurred about decade back after the end of an Ashura day procession. “We have obtained personal bonds from the seminary management. organisers of the [June 26, 2026] central Ashura procession,” SSP Shahzeb Chachar told Dawn.

“We are planning to use drone cameras along the entire one-kilometre procession route,” he said.

The Sukkur police range would have a deployment of 6,436 police officers. personnel to cover 295 processions and another 1,820 for 360 congregations. Four SSPs have already been supervising the security in the range under the command of 26 DSPs until the end of Ashura processions.

In the Larkana police range, 5,691 police officers. personnel have been deployed for security of 298 processions while 1,058 others for 193 congregations till the end of Ashura processions. The 13,396-strong police force is commanded by five SSPs and 33 DSPs.

In Mirpurkhas police range, 1,195 police officers and personnel have been covering 36 processions and another 220 guarding 90 congregations. In addition, 130 police personnel have been deployed at ‘sensitive points’. The entire force is commanded by four SSPs and one DSP.

The Shaheed Benazirabad police range is witnessing a deployment of 3,850 police officers. personnel for 104 processions and another 770 for 91 congregations to be held on Ashura day. A total of 5,454 personnel have been on duty in the district since Wednesday. would remain there till the end of Ashura processions and congregations under the supervision of three SSPs and 21 DSPs.

Sindh IGP Javed Alam Odho toldDawnthat 2,630 army jawans would remain standby to assist police in ensuring security on Ashura day while 6,700 Rangers personnel would also be on security duties. “We will be going for closure of mobile phone services only along the routes of processions,” he said.
