Reports of irregularities involving transfers from contractors' accounts surface
Following the emergence of a scandal involving the alleged embezzlement of Rs1.94 billion from the Rawalpindi Development Authority's official account. a new controversy has surfaced regarding the transfer of millions of rupees from the contractors' securities account.
The Director General of the RDA has constituted a new probe committee headed by the additional director general to investigate the matter.
According to sources, RDA Additional Director General Masood Bukhari has been appointed convener of the committee. Its members include the director engineering, director administration, director finance, deputy director engineering-ii, deputy director finance and assistant director finance-ii.
The committee has been directed to identify possible irregularities in the maintenance operation. contractors' securities account, examine all relevant records, determine lapses, engage the services of an audit and accounting firm and submit its report to the competent authority.
It may be recalled that in May 2025, a case involving the transfer of Rs1.94 billion from the RDA's official account to various companies. individuals through Call Deposit Receipts (CDRs) came to light. Following the revelations, the Punjab chief secretary constituted a high-level fact-finding inquiry committee.
However, despite the passage of one year, the committee's report has yet to be made public.
In the case, NAB arrested a contractor, the brother of a former RDA officer and an RDA employee. The contractor has since been released on bail. the RDA employee entered into a plea bargain, while the former officer's brother remains in jail.
According to sources, NAB has made significant progress in recovering the amount and has accelerated the process for recoveries. However, responsibility for how such large-scale embezzlement. irregularities occurred is yet to be determined, as the fact-finding committee's report remains pending.
