With Hardik Pandya still recovering from back spasms. Suryakumar Yadav out due to personal reasons, Jasprit Bumrah led Mumbai Indians (MI) and opted to bowl first after winning the toss.
This is the first time Bumrah is leading MI. He expected the pitch to settle down in the second half and become easier to bat.
MI made two changes. They brought in Sherfane Rutherford and Shardul Thakur for Suryakumar and AM Ghazanfar.
PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer said he too wanted to bowl first. They made three changes. Marcus Stoinis, Ben Dwarshuis and Yash Thakur went out. In came Azmatullah Omarzai, Xavier Bartlett and Harpreet Brar. Brar was not part of the bat-first XI and is likely to come in as Impact Player when PBKS bowl.
The match is being played on a fresh pitch. The square boundaries are 63 metres and 68 metres. The straight boundary is 72 metres.
After staying unbeaten for the first seven games of the season, PBKS have now lost four in a row. They are still fourth on the points table but another defeat could jeopardise their chances of making the playoffs. MI have been eliminated from the playoffs race and will be playing for pride.
