KHYBER: Hundreds of students of different semesters of the Post Graduate Degree College (PGDC) Landi Kotal are at the risk of losing their academic year due to persistent delay in their examinations by the University of Peshawar (UoP).
The UoP cancelled annual examinations of 1st, 3rd, 5th. 7th semesters in February due to border clashes between the security forces of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The PGDC students toldDawnthat at the time of cancellation of their examinations. the UoP authorities had assured that the exams would be conducted once the border security situation stabilised.
“Since then we have been constantly reminding the authorities concerned about our apprehension. the immediate conduct of exams but the matter has been delayed without any tangible reason,” Daud Shinwari, president of the college students union, said.

Accompanied by scores of his college mates. cabinet members, he also accused the UoP authorities for their failure to convene the promised Academic Council meeting during the last three months which could fix a new date for the exams.
He said. over 350 students were now faced with the stark reality of wasting their precious academic year as they do not see any immediate announcement of a fresh date for their stalled exams for four different semesters.
Mr. Shinwari said that as per the UoP rules, their exams for the final semesters were scheduled for July 15.
“The students are not eligible to sit for the final term exams until they clear their previous exams,” he insisted. added that the PGDC principal and administration was now fed up with the non-cooperative and non-professional attitude of the UoP authorities.
He appealed to Chief Minister Muhammad Suhail Afridi, who is also the chancellor of the UOP, to prevail upon the UoP authorities. address their examinations issue at the earliest.
The aggrieved students also warned of resorting to protest if the authorities concerned failed to address their grievances without any further delay.
