Apex Committee approves FC deployment Surveillance, checkpoints to be set up in Rakhshan
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the immediate deployment of the Frontier Corps (FC) to Balochistan's Rakhshan division to establish a dedicated "security corridor" aimed at protecting the province's vast mineral resources. maintaining the confidence of local and international investors operating in the region.
The decision was finalised during the Provincial Apex Committee meeting under the National Action Plan (NAP), held in Quetta. The session was also attended by Chief of Army Staff. Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.
The planned security corridor will include additional FC wings, highway checkpoints, an advanced surveillance grid, and reinforced border posts. Shehbaz emphasised that integrating modern technology and providing advanced training to law-enforcement agencies remained critical to eliminating terrorism.
"Pakistan is blessed with abundant natural resources, especially minerals," the prime minister said while addressing the participants. "Ensuring a secure environment in Balochistan is essential for maintaining the confidence of local. international companies working on mineral-related projects."
During the meeting, the prime minister commended Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the armed forces for their counter-terrorism efforts. He also praised Chief Minister Bugti for promoting transparency and merit in district administration appointments.
Officials briefing the meeting said all institutions were actively engaged in efforts to eradicate terrorism. They also informed participants that youth welfare projects, including skills development programmes, were progressing across the province.
The briefing further revealed that no polio case had been reported in Balochistan since November 2024. Several healthcare projects, including a cancer institute, dialysis centres,. trauma centres, had become operational, while work on additional facilities was under way.
Officials said that 99% of schools in Balochistan were currently open and educational activities were continuing uninterrupted. They also highlighted the success of a solar energy initiative that had benefited more than 15,000 households. resulting in savings of approximately Rs105 billion so far.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated the federal government's commitment to empowering Balochistan's youth by expanding digital skills training, scholarships,. vocational opportunities to ensure their active participation in national development.
He noted that special attention was being given to infrastructure, education, healthcare,. communication projects in Balochistan to provide equal development opportunities and improved facilities for young people.
The meeting was also attended by federal ministers Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Mohsin Naqvi, Attaullah Tarar, Khalid Magsi, Jam Kamal Khan, Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah,. senior officials from relevant institutions.
During his visit to Quetta, the prime minister also visited the Command. Staff College, where he addressed faculty members and student officers. In his address, he reaffirmed the resolve to defend Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity against any misadventure at all costs.
The prime minister lauded the professionalism, operational preparedness,. sacrifices of the armed forces in safeguarding national sovereignty and ensuring peace and stability. He paid rich tributes to the Shuhada. the unwavering commitment of the armed forces to the defence of the motherland.
Referring to Marka-e-Haq. the prime minister paid tribute to the armed forces' historic victory under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir. He also highlighted Pakistan's "responsible conduct and escalation control" in response to India's "unprovoked and hubristic aggression".
He stated that Operation Ghazab Lil Haq was continuing with full resolve to defend the lives. property of innocent citizens against Afghanistan-based terrorists, and to eliminate terrorist hideouts and support infrastructure. He also reiterated Pakistan's unwavering support for the people of Kashmir and Palestine.
Acknowledging the presence of students from friendly countries, the prime minister underscored the importance of military diplomacy. cooperation, as well as the strides made by Pakistan as a "net regional stabiliser" contributing to peace, stability, and progress in the region and beyond.
