Sinfield reveals final MND ultramarathon challenge

Rugby league star turned fundraiser Kevin Sinfield has announced his seventh. final challenge to raise money for motor neurone disease (MND) charities.

Dubbed 7 in 7: The Grand Finale, his latest feat will see him run between Hull. Manchester, visiting all 12 English Super League grounds en route.

Starting on 27 September. finishing at the Super League Grand Final on 3 October, Sinfield, 45, will cover at least 45km (27.9 miles) each day.

Since his first challenge in 2020. he has raised more than £11m for MND causes, inspired by his former team mate Rob Burrow, whodied in June 2024after living with MND for four-and-a-half years.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast about his efforts to date, he said: "Our team have done a wonderful job. I couldn't have done any of it without them, they are so unselfish in the way they've gone about this.

"We couldn't have done this on our own. The money has gone a long way. we're getting closer and closer, but we've got to keep pushing, we've got to try and find a cure."

A spokesperson for Leeds Rhinos said funds raised by the final challenge would be split between the MND Association, the Leeds Hospital Charity, Irish MND Association, the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, MND Scotland. the Darby Rimmer Foundation.

They said the feat, spanning Yorkshire, Greater Manchester. Merseyside, would visit AMT Headingley, the home of Leeds Rhinos, and would include a "poignant pass" near the home of Burrow in Pontefract.

The club said the challenge would also include extra mile events. allowing people affected by MND to join Sinfield for a mile during each day's run.

Starts at Hull KR's ground, goes across the city to Hull FC, then heads out through Market Weighton. finishes at Shiptonthorpe.

Leaves Shiptonthorpe. heads into York, stopping at the University of York, York Knights' stadium, York Minster and the racecourse, before finishing at Bishopthorpe Palace.

Travels from North Yorkshire into West Yorkshire, passing near Pontefract, then going by Castleford Tigers and finishing at Wakefield Trinity.

Starts in Wakefield, heads to Leeds Rhinos' Headingley stadium, then Bradford Bulls, and finishes in Huddersfield.

Crosses the Pennines, passing through Oldham, and ends at Salford.

Runs from Salford through Leigh and Wigan before finishing in St Helens.

The final day goes via Warrington and ends at Old Trafford in Manchester, just before theSuper League Grand Final.

Each day is made up of multiple 7km (4.3 mile) sections, adding up to an ultra-marathon every day.

Sinfield. 45, who played his entire professional career with Leeds Rhinos, is one of the most successful players in Super League history.

He and Burrow met at the Leeds Rhinos academy aged 14 and 12. They went on to win seven titles together with Leeds Rhinos.
