Qatar's Energy Ministry says those killed in the blast were all from India, Pakistan

At least 13 people were killed. dozens injured after an explosion at Qatar's massive Ras Laffan liquefied natural (LNG) gas complex which occurred as ‌workers were restarting operations halted after an Iranian attack in March.

Authorities said a 'technical accident' occurred at the Barzan local gas supply facility ​on Sunday evening. that there was no threat to public safety.

The facility ⁠is located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, QatarEnergy's primary site for LNG production. export with an annual production capacity of 77 ​million metric tons.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Qatar's Energy Ministry Saad Al-Kaabi said explosion at a factory in the Ras Laffan Industrial Area resulted in the deaths of 13 workers. injuries to 66 others.

He claimed the authorities had fully contained the situation. confirmed that there are no environmental risks or ongoing dangers at the site.

“Those killed in the blast were all from India and Pakistan,” the minister outlined.

"This was an accident and not a sabotage or hostile in nature.. Plant production was intentionally completely stopped since December ​2025 due to urgent maintenance requirements. it was first restarted again only two days ago."

There is no risk to the environment. the plant's export capabilities were unaffected, he said, adding that an investigation had started into the blast, which was felt ​across central Doha, panicking residents more than 70 kilometres away.

Earlier, Qatar's Interior Ministry had claimed that 54 ​people had been injured. rescue teams were looking for 18 missing people.

Emergency response ​teams had been deployed and fire was brought under control, according to the authorities.

QatarEnergy did not comment on whether the explosion had caused any damage to the plant, which supplies pipeline gas to the local industry. ​Qatar's power generation sector.

The plant produces ethane, condensate, liquefied petroleum gas and sulphur ​for domestic and export markets.

Qatar, which hosts a major United States (US) military base, has come under repeated Iranian missile. drone attacks during the US-​Iran war, which trapped around 20% of global LNG supply in the Gulf before some shipments began to ​resume recently.

The country has been among the hardest hit by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. as it has no alternative routes to export its LNG.

An Iranian missile attack in March struck two ​of its ⁠key gas-processing units. slashing about 17% of Qatar's LNG export capacity, which QatarEnergy CEO Saad al-Kaabi toldReuterswould take three to five years to repair.

The war also forced the company to evacuate about 10,000 ⁠workers from ​offshore rigs and onshore processing plants. The company ​reported no injuries during the March missile attack.
