Peshawar LPG prices surge amid gas shortage

Prices shoot up from Rs400 to Rs550 per kilogram due to artificial hikes by traders exploiting a shortage of Sui Gas

Residents of Peshawar are facing severe hardship as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices have shot up from Rs400 to Rs550 per kilogram due to artificial hikes by traders exploiting a shortage of Sui Gas.

Low gas pressure. frequent unavailability of piped natural gas have forced many households to rely on LPG cylinders, triggering a sharp rise in demand. Traders have taken advantage of the situation by imposing their own rates, with different prices being charged across various localities. The official government rate for LPG stands at Rs300 per kg.

Citizens have voiced strong concern over the unchecked price escalation of this essential commodity. Acting on public complaints, the district administration launched inspections and took swift action against violators.

During raids. many shopkeepers were found failing to display official price lists, while others were caught selling LPG above the government-fixed rate. As a result, 67 LPG dealers were arrested and 53 shops were sealed. Legal proceedings have been initiated against those arrested for profiteering and violating government directives.
