Punjab allocates Rs55b for Film City alongside plans for a theatre revival programme and expanded support for artists
The Punjab government has earmarked Rs55 billion in its 2026–27 budget for the development of a state-of-the-art Film City, unveiling a broader package of initiatives aimed at revitalising Pakistan’s arts, culture. entertainment sectors.
Planned across 50 acres, the Film City will feature world-class facilities, including sound stages, modern film studios, visual effects (VFX) units, advanced production infrastructure. specialised laboratories. The project is intended to support filmmakers, content creators and other professionals working across the entertainment industry.
As part of the initiative, Pakistan’s first dedicated Film School will also be established to train aspiring professionals in filmmaking, television production. related disciplines.
The government further plans to develop a media trade hub. specialised music schools to nurture emerging talent and strengthen the country’s creative industries.
Under the Punjab Film City Authority Act, an institutional framework will be created to support the revival. growth of the film, television and drama sectors.
A Theatre Revival Programme will also be launched in collaboration with the Alhamra Arts Council. private-sector partners to promote theatre and expand cultural activities across Punjab.
In addition. the government has doubled financial assistance for artists, increasing support by 100 per cent compared with the previous year.
